Interim Managers invaluable as recession bites | Print |

As the credit crunch causes an economic downturn and then a full blown recession, the role of the interim manager becomes ever more critical for business success. The benign economic conditions of the last fifteen years mean that many businesses and business managers have never seen the effect of a recession first hand and the current tone of media reporting is generating a climate of fear. The majority of interim managers worked through the boom and bust years of the late '80s and early '90s and so have a lot of help to offer businesses steering through the current choppy waters.

Business Impact

There is no doubt that all businesses will be affected, even the strongest ones will need to change and inevitably the weakest most badly managed businesses will fail to survive. The key to a secure future is to assess the likely impact of the current trading conditions and take the required action early enough for it to make a difference - our 'Business Survival' article will be published in the next few days.

If you have concerns about your own business then you will find help on our site! You can approach any of our members directly or you can use our bespoke search service, both options are extremely cost effective. Our members should offer an intial meeting or consultation free of charge and in many cases this will help you clarify exactly what services you need. After that you only pay for the services provided and the experienced interim manager will very quickly be able to provide support to your business.

Interim Impact

At the current time there is no clear view of the changes in the marketplace, some of the interims on our site are reporting a significant slow down in activity whilst others have never been busier. Generally interim managers are in demand during significant periods of economic growth and downswings in the economy and this looks set to continue, although the marketplace is becoming increasingly competitive.

One common theme is the increased number of companies wishing to avoid agency fees and so approaching interims directly, via the internet or networking contacts. More than 70% of business is already won directly and we believe that it really is worth putting effort into your networking and quality direct &  internet based marketing. Read our 'Ten Top Tips for Interim Managers' for useful advice.

Finally

Plato's People is run by executives with many years experience in business, we are genuinely interested in helping our candidates and business customers, get in touch and there will be no 'hard sell'.

We will make every effort to assist you.

Plato’s People was launched to take advantage of the rapid growth in both internet based recruitment and the interim management market. Over the test period the  site quickly expanded its membership and received overwhelmingly positive feedback from the interim management community. The site has now undergone a major upgrade to support the next phase of development where we are focusing on raising further awareness in our target market of business users.

Your feedback has helped us develop the website further to become an even better resource for both candidates and recruiters. The new site contains  more user friendly account features to help you manage your account more easily and effectively, an improved search engine for more powerful and accurate searching and the opportunity for businesses to advertise their assignments online.

Candidates can now upgrade their accounts to make their profiles stand out by highlighting that they are currently available or by providing a direct link to their website. Businesses can now select  the right database search package from the range we offer, as well as advertising their assignments prominently on the website.

The new site also contains a selection of articles of interest to candidates and business users alike. Independent specialists have written the candidate articles to give a useful guide to all aspects of interim management, from finding work to running your own business. Our members have written the business articles about topics of interest to our business clients and members find that this is an excellent way of raising their personal profile. Any member can submit an article by contacting us via the information page. We welcome your contributions to our site!

Look out for our advertisements in quality publications and on other internet sites, as we raise further awareness of our site in our target market of business users.
